Observations

Observations is a screen print collaboration with artist Ellis Hutch, completed during a joint artist / research residency at the Megalo Printmaking Studio in Canberra, Australia. Using the visual language of astronomical documentation to display images of the earth, rocks, clay, collected during our research in the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary of Southern Australia, our images of the land begin to mirror the celestial scenes of outer space. By juxtaposing the two scenarios - night sky and solid ground - familiar boundaries are blurred and new environments begin to emerge. The research for this project is based on Aboriginal navigation of the unknown and the history of integrated mapping between land and sky. All sourced images were taken during research expeditions in the Australian Outback.
